John Edmund Mayberry, age 87 of Remus, Michigan passed away on Friday afternoon, January 3, 2025 at Green Acres Assisted Living in Fremont, Michigan. He was born on June 15, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to Leslie and Virgia (Cross) Mayberry. John had owned and operated New Concept Builders, and he had been a commercial construction consultant. He enjoyed building Bowie knives and black powder rifles, and was a member of Grand Valley Cap N Ballers. John was a pitcher on a semi-professional baseball team in Grand Rapids during the 1950’s, and he liked motorcycles and fast cars. He was an avid deer and pheasant hunter, fisherman, and he enjoyed snowshoeing. John also had a large garden, and liked to make grape wine and apple cider. He is survived by his former spouse, Lorraine (Mayberry) Nyenhuis of Howard City; three daughters: Michelle Mayberry-Bradley of Grand Rapids, MI., Diane Parks of Lansing, MI., Angela Mayberry (Michael Watkins) of Howard City, MI.; eight grandchildren: Jennifer (Ryan) Baltruczak, Patrick Capek, Alexis Parks, Eric (Rochelle) Parks, Stephanie (Matt Phillips) Parks, Sarah Root, Neil Root, Nathan Watkins; four great-grandchildren: Frankie Parks, Noah Parks, Evelyn Phillips, Emma Phillips; and by two nieces: Alycia Bennett, Tamila (Ramont) McCoy. John was preceded in death by his brother, Leslie Mayberry; sister, Janet (Mayberry) Bennett; and by his nephew Michael Bennett. According to John’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service. Suggested Memorial: Ann Arbor Fisher House.
