Joseph Albert Trese, age 95, of East Glacier Park Montana and most recently Twin Lake, MI, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, Thursday morning, November 21, 2024. He was born on September 12, 1929, in Port Huron, Michigan to Arthur & Margurite Trese (Schwab). Joe entered the Seminary at age 15 and became a priest in the Detroit Diocese. Joe left the priesthood, became a counselor, and taught Developmental Psychology at Oakland Community College until his retirement.
Joe loved the outdoors especially in Michigan and Montana. He built his home on what he called “Redtail Ridge” in 1978. He spent summers there until his full retirement in 1997, when he moved to East Glacier Park permanently. He loved to run, usually accompanied by one or more of his many faithful German Shepards. He loved organic systems, they fascinated him. He effortlessly lived his passion of supporting each of us through our struggles, always teaching, always supporting. He once called it “applied Christianity”.
He is survived by his sister Alice Trese, age 91, Cincinnati, OH, numerous nieces and nephews as well as countless great nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents’ Art and Margurite; brothers: Jack, Jim, and Tom Trese; Sister: Virginia Dauer (Trese); Sisters-in-law: Mary (MT) Trese, Laone Trese; and brother-in-law Vince Dauer.
There will be no formal memorial service. We ask that you please remember Joe in your own way, honoring Joe’s celebration of your individuality.
