Joyce Carlson Obituary

Joyce Janine Carlson, age 72 of Fremont, was called home by God April 9, 2024. She was born February 1, 1952 to Jack and Barbara (Paulson) Hosler in Muskegon. She was in the Civil Air Patrol and resigned as Cadet Lieutenant after graduating from Fruitport High School. She also graduated from Muskegon Community College. She had a love for Girl Scouts, which she became a Leader and Director for 10 years. On October 19, 1984, she married Richard A. Carlson, and he survives her along with her 2 daughters:  Nicole (Wyatt) Miel of Whitehall, Victoria Norman of Spring Lake; 5 grandchildren:  James Miel, Zach Norman, Nick Miel, Jayde Norman, and Connor Miel; 1 great-grandson, Silas Miel; 2 sisters:  her twin Jackie Gilmore of Spring Lake, and Kristi (Bill Holmes) Brown of Muskegon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law:  Bob Carlson of Muskegon, Jane (Bud) Dinquel of Florida; and by several nieces and nephews.  Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, and by her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Rita and Fred Michelsen along with their son Carl Michelsen.  Joyce was a member of DeColores #143.  Joyce had also been involved with the Emmaus Walk for 2 years. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Joyce was employed by Holton Public Schools for 9 years as a school bus driver. God called her to work for Him in 1985. She told God that He had the wrong person for the job.  There was no way she could do what He was asking her to do.  She finally told God she will give it a try and loved being a Disciple of God.  She was employed at Samuel Lutheran Church for 2 years and Fremont United Methodist Church for 6 years. She was commissioned on December 19, 1999, as a Parish Christian Educator. She was Director for many Vacation Bible Schools, Christmas Programs, Church Day Camps and taught Senior High Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW #4249 in Newaygo. She loved music (she played the harmonica, guitar, and accordion.) camping, tubing down the river, and spending quality time with her family and friends. She has traveled many places from Germany to Hawaii.  She loved traveling and experiencing new places and cultures.  Joyce loved to meet new people and spread her love everywhere she went.  She will be greatly missed by all.
