Mrs. Karel Louise Dawe, age 81 of Fremont, passed away on Friday evening, October 30, 2020 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was born on December 6, 1938 in Muskegon, Michigan to Harold & Verna (Smith) Strait. Karel had worked at Gerber Products Company, and she had been a distributor for Arnie’s Bakery. She was a member of the Fremont Jaycee’s Auxiliary where she had been a past president, and she was a Detroit Tigers fan. On June 29, 1957 she married Thomas C. Dawe. They were avid shuffleboard players, and they enjoyed spending winters in Florida. Tom preceded her in death on July 27, 2007. Karel was also preceded in death by her sisters: Audrey Strait, Sharon Strait, and Maxine Gilmore; by her brother Ronald Strait; by her brothers-in-law: Mike Gilmore & Chuck Miller; and by her sister-in-law, Joan Strait. Karel is survived by 4 sons: William (Sharon) Dawe of Fennville, MI., Daniel Dawe, Scott Dawe, & Eric Dawe all of Fremont; 3 grandchildren: Crystal Dawe, Adam Dawe, & Brent Dawe; 6 great grandchildren; sisters & brothers: Vernita Miller, Dale Strait, Linnea (Friend Terry Mortenson) Strait, Donald Strait, Rebecca (Robert) Wells; 3 sisters-in-law: Linda Strait, Terri Shelkey Strait, Ruthelma Dawe; and by many nieces & nephews. According to her wishes cremation has taken place, and a private family graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont at a later date.
