Kay L. Boike, age 78 of Fremont, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, July 1, 2025, at Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids as the result of injuries from an automobile accident. She was born on November 15, 1946, in Fremont, Michigan, to Fred and Lucille (Kaiser) Deuling.
Kay worked with her dear friend Nancy Rupar for several years at Nanc’s Sewing Room in Fremont, and she was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Fremont. Kay had a heart for service and spent her time caring for her family and friends, especially her boys. She was an avid reader and volunteered at St. Michael Catholic School in Brunswick.
Kay was regarded by all who knew her as sweet, gentle, and endlessly caring. She never wanted to inconvenience anyone and always put others’ needs ahead of her own. Her kindness and quiet strength left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
On October 9, 1965, she married William E. Boike, and he survives her along with two sons: Bill (Kristin) Boike of Fremont and Ryan (Crystal) Boike of Twin Lake; grandson Austin Boike; three sisters: Shirley Bennett, Marjorie (Donald) Redder, and Fran (Gary) Derks; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Deuling and Ann Boike; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Kay was preceded in death by her brothers, Allen Deuling and Don Deuling; sisters, Barb Salisbury and Marlene Gilliland; brother-in-law, Randy Boike; and sister-in-law, Arlene Deuling.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Brunswick with Fr. Pete Schafer officiating. A luncheon and time to visit with the family will immediately follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
