Larry James Handy went to be with his Lord and Savior on his 86th birthday, Wednesday, September 18, 2024. He was born on September 18, 1938 in Muskegon, Michigan to Elton and Erma (Barnhard) Handy. Larry was retired from Michigan Animal Breeders Cooperative, where he had been employed as an AI tech for 51 years. He had been the sexton at Lincoln Township Cemetery for 30 years, and he was a longtime active member of Aetna Calvary Church, where he served as deacon and treasurer. On October 13, 1961 he married Sally Jane Weiden, and they built a life of service in the White Cloud countryside that he had cherished since boyhood summers spent on his grandparents’ farm. Larry enjoyed farming, hunting, & fishing. He was a hard-working farmer and man of God, known and loved by many across Newaygo County, and revered for his strong faith, humility, generosity, and caring heart.
Larry was preceded in death on January 12, 2017 by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sally. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother-in-law, Jim McColl. Larry is survived by 2 children, 4 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren: Jane (Don) Curtis of White Cloud and their twin daughters Elizabeth and Emily Curtis; Dan (Christi) Handy of Fremont and their 2 sons and grandchildren: D.J. (Jessie) Handy and their children Finnian, Sadie, and Luke, Derek (Leah) Handy and their children Ryan and Thomas. Larry is also survived by 3 sisters: Linda McColl, Jean (Bob) Shutts, Chris (Walter) Frederick; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and by many nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 23, 2024 at Aetna Calvary Church (3944 W. One Mile Road) with Pastors Justin Blackwood and Ron Workman officiating. A livestream of the service will be available at: https://www.facebook.com/AetnaCalvary/. Interment will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home from 2-4 PM on Sunday, and at the church from 10-11 AM on Monday. Suggested Memorials: Christian Horizons or Muskegon Rescue Mission.
