Lawrence “Larry” A. DeMars, Jr., age 87 of Fremont, passed away on Thursday afternoon, April 24, 2025. He was born on June 15, 1937 in Brunswick, Michigan to Lawrence A. and Myrtle (Longsdorf) DeMars. Larry was a US Army Veteran, and he was a member of the Holton American Legion Post 397. He was also a member of St Michael Catholic Church in Brunswick, and the Fremont Moose Lodge #1555. Larry had been employed at Fremont Lumber Company for 35 years, where he retired as the Assistant Manager in 1995. On July 12, 1958 he married Kay Oosting and she preceded him in death on September 26, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Marlene DeMars; 4 children: Susan Eggleton of Norton Shores, Ted & wife Pam DeMars of Pataskala, Ohio, Phil DeMars & friend Chris Cory of Fremont, Deb & husband Jim Swanson of Holton; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, & 3 great-great grandchildren. Larry is also survived by his sister, Joyce Greiner; brother, Art (Cheryl) DeMars; and by many nieces & nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son & 2 infant grandsons; sister, Beverly Pavlovic; and by his brother, Mike DeMars, MD. There will be a time of visiting with the family at Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home from 6-8 PM on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Military Honors will take place at 10:45 AM on Friday, May 2, 2025 at St Michael Catholic Church in Brunswick (6382 S Maple Island Road). A Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 AM on Friday with Fr. Pete Schafer as Celebrant. Interment will take place immediately after the Mass in St Michael Catholic Cemetery, followed by a luncheon in the church fellowship hall.
