Obituary

Marilyn Wilma Van Houten, age 93 of Fremont, was welcomed Home by her Lord and Savior early Wednesday morning, March 1, 2023.  Marilyn passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on October 22, 1929 in Grant, Michigan to Harry and Jean (Van Galen) Geers.  Marilyn was a member of Bethel Reformed OPC in Fremont, and she had previously been a member of First Reformed Church in Fremont for many years.  Marilyn’s faith in Christ was central to her life and that was clearly seen by all who knew her.  Her family describes her as the kindest, most gentle and loving person they’ve ever known.  She cherished her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild and the time they spent together at family gatherings, where Marilyn’s phenomenal pie-baking skills were legendary.  Marilyn lovingly served her family and her Lord, including as a volunteer for American Decency Association.  Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Van Houten, on December 9, 1971.  She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law Mark Johnson and by her sister Frances Timmermans (and husbands Louis Furman and Raymond Timmermans) and by brother-in-law Frederick Lummen.  She is survived by her 6 children:  Michael (Barbara) Van Houten, Susan VanHouten (special friend Bruce Honholt), Steven (Kathy) VanHouten, Mary Johnson, Nancy (Ron) Folkema, Lisa Van Houten; 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, & 1 great-great-grandson; 1 sister, Barbara Lummen; and by many nieces & nephews.  The Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, March 6, 2023 at First Reformed Church in Fremont with Pastor Vern Picknally officiating.  Visitation will also be at the church from 10:30-12:00 Noon on Monday.  Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery near Grant.  Suggested Memorials:  American Decency Association or Bethel Reformed OPC.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
