Marilyn Wever Obituary

Marilyn Gayle (Hammond) Wever, age 94 of Fremont, passed away at the Newaygo County Compassion Home on November 30, 2024. She was born June 20, 1930 in Muskegon, Michigan to Douglas and Edith (Stutzman) Hammond. On July 26, 1948, she married Lavern (Pete) Angus Wever who preceded her in death on May 19, 2011. Together they had 6 children.

Marilyn found joy in being a homemaker and cherished her time camping, canoeing, snowmobiling and creating memories with family and friends. From an early age, she demonstrated a strong work ethic, helping her disabled father with his janitorial duties at the local school. Over the years, Marilyn pursued various roles, working as a seamstress for Sanitary Cleaners, assisting her husband in their small engine repair business, and contributing to recreational activities in the mobile home park they called home in Naples, Florida.

A devoted supporter of youth development, Marilyn was especially proud of her 25+ years of volunteer work with 4-H. Her artistic spirit shone through in her many creative pursuits. She painted stunning works of art, including her signature painted saw blades, and owned a woodworking craft business alongside her husband, Pete. Marilyn also enjoyed designing and crafting bead jewelry, a testament to her creativity and eye for detail.

In her later years, she found relaxation and fulfillment in coloring hundreds of intricate adult coloring pages, which she loved sharing with others. Marilyn’s warmth, creativity, and dedication to her passions left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Sterling Hammond; sisters: Carmen and her husband Clayton Stuthard, Shirlianne and her husband Arnold Carlson; sister-in-law, Charlotte Hammond; and by her daughter, Pam Britton. She is survived by 5 children: Sterling (Roy Lynn) Wever, Linda (Randy) Sneller, Denice Brummel, Kim (Jack) Smith, and Steven (Lisa) Wever; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren; brother, Duane (Faye Ann) Hammond; and by many nieces and nephews.
