Marjorie Salata, 96, of Fremont passed away peacefully on Wed., Apr. 26, 2023.
She was born on February 22, 1927 in Fremont, Michigan to Harry and Jean (Kingsley) Reber. Marjorie met Ogden Moe at the University of Michigan, they married in 1950 and made their home in St. Petersburg, FL for 15 years. Marjorie was a homemaker with 4 children ages ten and under when her husband passed away suddenly in 1964. Later she met and married Michael Salata (sons Michael and David), returning to Fremont.
Marjorie attributed her long life to good genes and physical activity. She loved golf, downhill skiing, and aerobics. She served on various committees over the years, the longest being the ARC Newaygo County and the Fremont Area District Library.
Marjorie was a social butterfly, a firecracker with seemingly endless energy who loved hosting dinner parties, playing bridge, gathering with friends and family, attending the symphony and events at the Dogwood. Marjorie loved animals of all sorts and was especially attached to her cats.
After the death of her second husband in 1993, Marjorie traveled the world solo with various Earthwatch groups. She biked the Loire valley in France, mapped the holy wells in Ireland, assisted a conservation project of sea turtles in Mexico, traveled in a dugout canoe with head hunters in Borneo, and sailed the Mediterranean on a sailboat where she met her dear friend of 20 years, Bob Kaufman (Boston Bob).
She took multiple people under her wing who had no one else in their corner: a sorority sister, the mother of a deceased friend, the daughter of her house painter, a childless uncle, etc.
Marjorie’s friends were lifelong. Calls were frequent between Dead Eye (Marjorie) and Snake Eye (Sally Phinney) her childhood friend. The Showgirls watched movies together and the Adventure Club attended museums, plays, & dinners.
Marjorie is survived by her sister Nancy Johnson, brother in law Robert Moe, her children: Melissa Moe (Steven Baumann), Rhondi (Tim) Davis, Eric (Cindy) Moe, Gunnar (Lynne) Moe, David Salata as well as 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and multiple nieces & nephews.
Marjorie was preceded in death by husbands Ogden Moe and Michael Salata, stepson Mike Salata Jr., parents Harry & Jean Reber, brother Harry Reber Jr., sisters-in-law Mary Reber, Eunice Moe, Dorothy Miller & Barbara Moe, brothers-in-law Ted Johnson & David Miller, and nephew Bruce Johnson.
