Max M. Torrey, age 80 of Fremont, passed away on Monday evening, January 2, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on November 14, 1942 in Muskegon, Michigan to Arthur & Rose (Zechlinski) Torrey. Max was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era, and he had been employed by S.D. Warren in Muskegon for 32 years until his retirement in 1997. He was a fourth degree black belt in karate. Max had also been a member of the Holton American Legion Post 397, and the Holton Gun & Bow Club. On December 9, 1961 he married Karen F. Evans and she preceded him in death on September 20, 2021. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sally Cooke; sisters-in-law, Linda Vargo & Lois Torrey; and by his brother-in-law, Bob Pletcher. Max is survived by 5 children: Edward D. (Pam) Torrey of White Cloud, Diana M. (Jan) Relford of Hesperia, Max M. (Tiffany) Torrey, Jr. of Holton, Cheryl L. (Simon) Burdick of Fremont, Joseph C. Torrey of Twin Lake; 31 grandchildren & 33 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers & sister: Tom Torrey of Muskegon, Karen Pletcher of Muskegon, Bruce (Mary) Torrey of Muskegon. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont with Military Honors provided by the Holton American Legion Post 397. There will be a celebration of both Max and Karen's lives along with a luncheon at the Holton American Legion Post 397 immediately following the service at the cemetery.
