Melissa Leigh "Missy, Mel" Lummen

Miss Melissa Leigh “Missy, Mel” Lummen, age 44 Years of Fremont, passed away on Saturday Morning, May 21, 2022 at her home following a lingering illness. She was born on September 14, 1977 in Lansing, Michigan to Robert J. and Mary E. (Braafhart) Lummen. Melissa had attended St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Newaygo, and had worked as a volunteer at the Empowerment Network in Fremont for many years. She was an avid hockey fan, cheering for the Detroit Red Wings and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Survivors include her father, Robert J. Lummen of Fremont; her mother, Mary E. (Clint Boose) Lummen of Fremont; her sister, Jessica (Chad) Mason of Spring Lake; nieces and nephews: Carter, Ella, and Kyler Mason; several aunts, uncles, & cousins; Special Friends: Victoria Wilkinson, Jamie Gangwer and Mollie Gangwer.  She was preceded in death by her grandparents: William & Mary Lummen, Morris & Alma Lea Braafhart, Jr., and by her sister, Tabitha Jo Lummen. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church (30 Justice Street) in Newaygo with Rev. BJ Heyboer, Rector officiating. Visitation will be at church from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M.  Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont. Suggested Memorial: St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Newaygo.
