Melissa Jo Smith

Melissa Jo Smith, age 37 of Fremont, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday afternoon, June 8, 2021.  She was born on June 9, 1983 in Austin, Texas to Larry G. and Dawn M. (Feiger) Smith.  Melissa graduated from Fremont High School in 2001.  She then went on to Indiana Wesleyan University where she received a degree in Intercultural Studies, as well as her BSN in Nursing.  She had a heart for missions and felt privileged to serve short terms in Zambia, Mozambique, Swaziland, and Haiti.  Melissa had been a student nurse at the VA Home in Marion, IN., and then continued her nursing career at Marion General Hospital in Marion, IN.  She had also worked at Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial in Fremont as a Home Health Care Case Manager.  Melissa was a member of Brookhaven Wesleyan Church in Marion, IN.  She loved gardening, nature, photography, painting, and knitting. She is survived by her parents, Larry and Dawn Smith of Fremont; brother, Nathan (Kathryn) Smith of Lowell & their daughter Evie; grandparents: Alberta Smith of Traverse City, Walter and Susan Feiger of Traverse City.  She is also survived by many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, & friends including her many special friends in Indiana.  Melissa was preceded in death by her infant brother, Daniel; by her grandfather, Owen Smith; and by her aunt, Carrie Vanherweg Feiger.  The Funeral Service will be held at 3:30 PM on Monday, June 14, 2021 at Inspire Church in Fremont with Pastor Lyle Deeren and Randy McDonald officiating.   Livestream is available through the Inspire Church Facebook Page (facebook.com/liveinspired.church).  A luncheon will immediately follow the service in the church fellowship hall.  There will also be a time of visiting with the family at church from 2-3:30 PM on Monday.  A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens in Traverse City.  Suggested Memorials:  Myositis Support And Understanding Association or He Touched Me Ministries (for Dream Kids Zambia supporting orphans and vulnerable children).  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
