Michael Robert Bennett

Michael “Mike” Robert Bennett, age 83 of Fremont, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday evening, July 11, 2026.  He was born on September 14, 1942 in Kokomo, Indiana to Harry Glenn and Catherine (Wright) Bennett.  He grew up in Newaygo and met the love of his life, Patricia Boyd, whom he married on December 14, 1963.

Mike had been employed for 10 years at Gerber Products Company as a mathematics research technician and in 1981 he started, owned and operated Small Systems Software.  He later worked for Harsco Rail, a railroad maintenance company in Ludington.  As a computer programmer, he was instrumental in applying his skills to the Stoneblower, a specialized track maintenance machine used to level and stabilize railway tracks.  Mike served on the Fremont Fire Department for many years, where he played a significant role in obtaining the fireman paging system used to notify individual firemen of community emergencies.  Besides computer programming, he loved photography, camping, spending time with family, and going to his grandchildren’s programs and sporting events. He was also a member of Reeman Christian Reformed Church.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Pat; his children, Brenda (Randy) Burt and Kerry (Jessica) Bennett; four grandchildren: Tyler Burt, Allison (Paul) Blais, Eric (Katlyn) Burt, and Elizabeth Bennett; two great-grandchildren: Luke Burt and William Blais; many siblings-in-law, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, his parents-in-law, and several siblings-in-law. 

There will be a time of visiting with the family from 11-12:00 on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Reeman Christian Reformed Church.  A Memorial Service will follow at 12 noon with Pastors Nate Kooistra and Les VanDyke officiating.  A luncheon will immediately follow the service.  Interment will be in Reeman Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to Reeman Christian Reformed Church, or to the Fremont Area Community Foundation for STEM Education Fund.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
