Michael C. Assante, age 76, peacefully passed away early Tuesday evening, May 21, 2024 after bravely battling cancer with unwavering courage. He was born on January 17, 1948, to Michael J. and Marion (Mankin) Assante. Preceding him in death were his parents, Michael J. and Marion Assante, and his brother, Joel Mankin Assante. He is survived by his daughter, Kim Weadock of Grand Rapids, MI, and granddaughters, Bri Weadock of Norfolk, VA and Maddie Weadock of Grand Rapids, MI.
Michael served his country during the Vietnam War, bravely fulfilling his duty. For the majority of his life, Michael worked as an ironworker, dedicating himself to the trade. Recently retired, Michael was renowned for his strong work ethic, demonstrating dedication and diligence throughout his career.
Michael was adored by all who crossed his path. His breadth of knowledge was vast, offering answers to almost any question. His storytelling was captivating, leaving listeners yearning for more. Michael possessed a style uniquely his own-you could always spot him with his collar popped, sporting Levi’s and Converse high-tops. His quick wit and humor invariably left people laughing and shaking their heads in amusement.
Deeply affectionate towards his family, numerous friends, and his cherished furry companion, Sadie, Michael will be forever loved and missed. A celebration of life will be held in the summer.
