Murry Dexter Stocking

Murry Dexter Stocking, age 78 of Fremont, passed away on Sunday evening, July 19, 2026 at Corewell Health Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids.  He was born on August 24, 1947 in Fremont, Michigan to Murry Dayton & Princess E. (Warner) Stocking.

Dexter went to Wooster Elementary School, graduated from Fremont High School, and then received his Electrical Engineering Degree from Michigan Tech University.  He was a professor at Ferris State University in Big Rapids for 37 years until his retirement.  Dexter had also been the Sherman Township Clerk for almost 40 years, and he was a member of the White Cloud Fire Board for over 30 years.  He enjoyed mowing his lawn, tending to the flowers, gardening, antiques, and going on the occasional vacation. 

He is survived by his son, Murry Dayton Stocking; grandson, Murry David Jimenez; sister, Nellie & Jack Pikaart; his nieces Leanne & Kevin Klemundt, Vonda & Harlan Tollefson, nephew Karl DeVisser, and many additional nieces & nephews.  Dexter was preceded in death by his ex-wife Sally A. Jordan; parents, Murry Dayton & Princess Stocking; by his sister and her husband, Elizabeth “Betty” and Gord DeVisser; and by his nephew Hurley DeVisser. 

Visitation will be from 12-1 PM on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, followed by the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM on Wednesday.  Interment will be in Sherman Township Cemetery, and a luncheon will be held at Sherman Township Hall following the burial.  Suggested Memorial:  St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
