Norma Harrald Obituary

Norma Kay Harrald, 81 of Hesperia, passed away quietly on Saturday, July 27th, after prolonged health issues. Born Norma Kay Allen, on March 24th, 1943, Norma grew up, lived, and raised her family in Hesperia, MI. As a child, she spent many a day on the Thompson homestead in Volney, MI, where she enjoyed the company of her many relatives, most notably Nellie (Way) Dezinski, her cousin and favorite playmate. Here, her father Donald Allen, taught her to drive by having Norma back around the family’s hay field. His thoughts were that if she could drive backward, driving forward would come easy. After high school, Norma married her life long friend and love, Walter Harrald of Fremont, whom she remained married to for 58 years. As a career, Norma spent many years working with children in various settings, ranging from daycare centers to public schools. After retiring from the Newaygo County Intermediate School District, Norma spent her time helping her husband Walter with the family business, Harrald’s Christmas Tree Farm. As a small local business, the Harralds were known for their generosity, often donating trees to needy families. Each summer, Norma would spend time with Walter preparing to take the grandkids on the family fishing trip to Wawa, Ontario Canada. Her greatest joys in life were the large family Christmas gatherings, the yearly Easter Egg Hunt, and spending time with her family. Even near the end of her life, seeing or hearing from one of her seven grandchildren or two great grandchildren, would make Norma’s face light up. Norma was preceded in death by her husband Walter Leroy Harrald and her parents, Donald and Rosa Mae (Thompson) Allen. She is survived by her three children Theresa (Lynn) Kuhns of White Cloud, MI, Leesa (Wayne) O’Niel of Harlingen, TX, and Michael (Lisa) Harrald of Allendale, MI, her seven grandchildren - Justin (Sarah) Kuhns, Sindle Kuhns, Ashlee (Adam) Reatini, Benjamin (Brook) Gitchell, Caitlin (Raymond) Harrald-Hayes, Kelsey Harrald & Krissa Harrald - and her two great grandchildren - Walter and Mable Kuhns. Norma is also survived by her three siblings - Jackie (Paul) Frees of Ferry, MI, Jake Allen of Hesperia,MI, and Jill (Glenn) Graham of Manistee, MI, and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. There are also several grandpets that will be missing grandma. At peace and free from pain, the good Lord has called her home to be reunited with her husband Walter and her parents Donald and Rosa Mae Allen. May God bless all the family and friends mourning the loss of Norma Kay.
