Paul Burk Obituary

Paul E. Burk, age 89 of Fremont, passed away on Saturday morning, February 3, 2024.  He was born on June 11, 1934 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Thaddeus J. & A. Bernice (Sutton) Burk.  Paul was a US Army Veteran.  He was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church in Fremont where he had been a Lector and a Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3111.  Paul had the heart of an artist and learned sculpting, wood carving, painting, drawing, and wine making over the years. The Fremont Civic Theater became a part of his life for many years where he acted in, directed and produced many of the local stage plays. But, most importantly, he had the soul of a photographer. For over 50 years, he helped chronicle the lives of others. Beginning in the US Army until just a few years ago, he captured personal histories with pictures of everyday life, sporting events, engagements, weddings, school and family portraits, and community events. The artist’s urge always manifested in beautiful nature, still life and landscape photos.  After “retirement,” he dove deep into buying and selling antiques and sat downtown at City Centre Antiques for several years, happy to chat about old cameras, youth adventure and children’s books or vintage toys with those wandering into the shop. On January 30, 1960, he married Mary C. Daigle and she survives him along with 3 children:  Daniel (Linda) Burk of Benton Harbor, Steve (Nancy Manchip) Burk of Byron Center, Diane Geers of Grant; 5 grandchildren:  Anja (Ben) Williams, Erin (Daniel) La Porte, Casey, Catherine, & Chase Geers; and 5 great-grandchildren:  Jacob, Hannah, Molly, and Alexander Williams; and Myles La Porte.  He is also survived by his brother-in-law & his wife, Paul (Diane) Daigle of Grand Rapids; and by several nieces & nephews.  Paul was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Virginia Tighe; and by his brother-in-law & his wife, Jack & Marge Daigle.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at All Saints Catholic Church in Fremont with Fr. Pete Schafer as Celebrant.  Visitation will also be at the church on Saturday from 9:30-11:00 AM, where the Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 AM.  Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to Shriners Children’s or Bishop Baraga Academy at All Saints Catholic Church.  You may sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
