Pauline Afman went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday evening, December 17, 2018, in the Newaygo County Medical Care Facility. As she entered heaven’s gates, Pauline’s daughters sang her favorite hymns as they surrounded her bedside. She was 96 years old. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on September 20, 1922, she was one of eleven children and the daughter of a pastor.
Pauline worked in ministry as a pastor’s wife for five decades—leading people to Jesus, teaching Bible studies, and using her gift of hospitality to feed, encourage, and bless the lives of all who entered her home. She is best known for being a woman of prayer. Whenever her children shared a personal challenge with her, she’d say, “Have you prayed about it yet?” Or she’d say, “Start praising God and thanking Him.” Her legacy of faith will live on through her children, grandchildren, and others she led to Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pastor Clyde Afman, her parents, all but one of her ten siblings, and one grandson, Tony Tarantino. She is survived by six children—Carol (Gene) Kent of Lakeland, FL, Jennie (Graydon) Dimkoff of Fremont, MI, Paula (Dave) Brunsting of Newaygo, MI, Bonnie (Ron) Emmorey of Fremont, MI, Ben Afman of Baltimore, MD, and Joy (Kelly) Carlson of Ithaca, MI,16 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
The funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Fremont. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont. Visitation will be at the Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home from 6-8 PM on Friday. Suggested Memorial: Speak Up for Hope, P.O.
