Phillip Chaney Obituary

Mr. Phillip Lee Chaney, age 87 years of Fremont, passed away on Friday night, November 10, 2023 in his home where he resided for 57 years. He was born on November 5, 1936 in Ann Arbor Michigan at University Hospital. On September 4, 1960, in Fremont, MI he married Delores Jean Clouse. His only child, Lorrie Lee Chaney (Barnes) was born on August 5, 1961. He worked for the City of Fremont for 37 years (3/15/61-10/30/98) in the following departments: Maple Grove Cemetery, city barn and waste water treatment plant until he retired. He was a member of the Utility Workers Union of America-A.F.L-C.I.O. Local 512, served as president of the Teamsters Union and Gerald Ford Boy Scout Council where he volunteered as merit badge counselor. He loved to work with his hands and tinker in his garage and basement. He especially took pride in taking care of his yard and his home. In later years he always looked forward to going on new adventures and traveling across the United States and Canada with his daughter, but he especially loved spending time with his family. His cat, Forder, who he adopted, gave him great comfort and peace especially when he suddenly became ill. He always had compassion to help others, especially children at his local church. He attended First Baptist Church of Fremont. He will always be remembered as a devoted and faithful husband and loving and caring father.  He is survived by his daughter Lorrie (Fredy) Barnes, sisters, Ruthie (Ron) Ledford; Ellen (Jim) Cerezo, and stepsister Lois Eberline, grandsons Brandon and Micheal (Carley), great granddaughters Emily and Hannah and by many nieces, nephews, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife,  Delores Jean Chaney on December 19, 2007; by his parents, Wilbur Chaney and Mable Saunders Chaney Eberline; Father and Mother in Law, Ward and Geraldine Clouse; Brothers, William Clair Chaney Sr. (Nella) and Wilber Chaney; Sister, Genevieve (Richard) Little, and step brother, Harold Eberline.  A Visitation for Phillip will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 10-12 Noon at First Baptist Church of Fremont, and a Funeral Service will  immediately follow at church at 12:00 Noon on Friday (Please note updated time).  A luncheon will follow the service at church, and he will be laid to rest later that afternoon at Maple Grove Cemetery in a private burial with immediate family in attendance.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: American Cancer Society, Comanche County Relay for Life.
