Richard H. Kerstein

Mr. Richard H. Kerstein, age 86 of Fremont, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 29, 2025 at the Poppen Hospice Residence in Muskegon.  He was born on April 15, 1939 in White Cloud, Michigan to William & Lenora (Bartz) Kerstein.  Rich was a member of Fremont United Methodist Church, and he had been employed at Gerber Products Company for 42 years until his retirement in 1999. He loved to fly fish and make his own flies, and deer hunt in the winter.  On March 13, 1959 he married Edna Diekema, and his wife of 48 years preceded him in death on August 14, 2007.  He was also preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Suzette “Sue” & Armandus deGraaf; sister & brother-in-law, Esther & Emery Willson; & brother-in-law, Dick Diekema.  Rich is survived by 3 daughters:  Joyce (Kerstein) & Kenneth Schaalma of Muskegon, Yvonne & John Keranen of Grand Rapids, Kristine & Dennis Vandeventer of Reno, Nevada; 1 granddaughter, Stefanie (Chris) Caley; 2 great-grandchildren, Emily & Jack Caley; 1 brother, Peter Kerstein of Holland; 1 sister-in-law, Sandra Diekema of Fremont; and by several nieces & nephews.  The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday,   November 5, 2025 at Fremont United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Jennifer Jue officiating.  Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.  Visitation will be at the Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home from 4-7 PM on Tuesday, and at the church from 12-1 PM on Wednesday.  The family would like to give a special thank you to the Poppen Hospice Residence and Harbor Hospice for all the great care during his final days, and in lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be given to the Poppen Hospice Residence or to Harbor Hospice.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
