Richard M. “Dick” Volz, age 93 of Fremont, went to be with his Lord and Savior early Monday morning, December 13, 2021. He was born on July 14, 1928 in Stevensville, Michigan to William Karl & Petranella (Hoebeke) Volz. Dick was a US Army Veteran during the Korean War, and he had been employed by Gerber Products Company for 40 years until his retirement in 1989. He was a founding active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fremont, and he had been a member of the Lutheran Church Extension Board. Dick enjoyed golfing, fishing, and playing cards. On May 26, 1950 he married Iva Shippy and she preceded him in death on December 12, 1995. He was also preceded in death by his sister & brother-in-law, Elinore “Pic” & Dale Lesman; brother & sister-in-law, William Karl & Bernice Volz, Jr.; sister, Leona “Pudge” Volz; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Volz. Dick is survived by 5 children: Jan (Michael) Heitland, Jill (William) Korenstra, Jon (Valerie) Volz, Juli Volz, & Joi Crilly; 14 grandchildren & 20 great grandchildren; and 1 brother, Melvin (Linda) Volz. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fremont with Rev. Todd Brunworth officiating. Visitation will also be at the church from 11:30-1:00 PM on Thursday. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont. Suggested Memorial: TrueNorth Community Services.
