Richard “Pete” Lee Whitten, age 88 of Muskegon, passed away late Wednesday evening, January 29, 2025 at his brother David’s home in Remus, Michigan after a long illness. He was born on February 16, 1936 in Charlevoix, Michigan to William Albert & Lila Dee (Danforth) Whitten, and he was raised by Ola E. Whitten after his mother died when he was very young. Richard was a US Army Veteran, and he was a member of the United Presbyterian Congregational Church in Ashland, Wisconsin. He was a cement finisher, and he retired from Operative Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ Local 546. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, & gardening. Richard was also an animal lover, and he loved to travel. He married Mary Ellen (Jordan) on August 25, 1956 and she preceded him in death on April 2, 1993. He later married Kathleen D. (MacFarlane) on July 2, 1994 and she preceded him in death on September 10, 2024. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Gertrude Whitten & Leatrice Anne Wilson; and by his brothers: Keith, Lester, & William Whitten, Jr. Richard is survived by his children: Cindy (Walter) Allison, William (Paula) Whitten; step-children: Rick (Kim) Allen, Jacque (Scott) Byrd; grandchildren: Lila Roomsburg, Adam Allison, Katie (Brian) Harder; step-grandchildren: Zach & Autumn Allen, Jillian (Kirk) Talford, Brian (Nicole) Byrd; and by many great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters & brother: Dawn Pickering, Dorothy (Griff) Newell, Jackie (Chuck) Hesse, Dave (Tammy) Whitten, Sue Pierce, Sherri (Jon) Dixon, Ruth (E.J.) Porter; and by many nieces & nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home with Pastor Les VanDyke officiating.
