Richard "Rich" B. Phillips

Richard “Rich” B. Phillips, age 89 of Muskegon, passed away on Wednesday evening, May 1, 2024 at the Poppen Hospice Residence in Muskegon.  He was born on December 7, 1934 in Boyne City, Michigan to Walter D. & Christina May (Taylor) Phillips.  Rich had been employed by the Matson Oldsmobile and Cadillac Dealership in Muskegon, and the Betten Chevrolet Dealership in Muskegon until his retirement.  He was also a member of Church of God United in Muskegon for over 40 years.  On March 26, 1955 Rich married Janet Millis and she preceded him in death on March 18, 2002.  He is survived by 1 daughter, Susan Heaton; 1 granddaughter, Andrea “Andi” (Chad) Adamson; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters:  Dorothy Bush, Barbara Benton, Donna (Donald) Maxwell, Dianna Ockaski; many nieces & nephews; and by his special friend, Sheila Cooley.  Rich was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Dennis Heaton; parents, Walter & Christina Phillips; brothers:  Walter, Robert, William, & Rudy Phillips; by his sister, Flossie VanAvery; and by his special friend, Esther Trojanek.  A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Church of God United, 1630 Harvey St, Muskegon, MI  49442 with Pastor Jared Rider officiating.  A luncheon & time to visit with the family will immediately follow the service at church.  Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.  Per Rich’s wishes, the family requests no flowers.  Instead, memorial contributions can be given to Church of God United, 1630 Harvey Street, Muskegon, Michigan  49442, or to Poppen Hospice Residence, 2065 E.
