Rose Luella Eckert, age 90, of Fremont, went to be with her Lord and Savior early Wednesday morning, April 8, 2026, in Rockford, Illinois, where she had been living with her daughter, Alice (Harry) Holcomb. In her final moments, Rose opened her eyes and expressed great joy, as if she was seeing Jesus and reuniting with beloved family.
Rose was born on February 9, 1936, in Hay Springs, Nebraska, to Ernest and Alzina (Gillette) Coleman. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Fremont and found comfort and happiness in hearing the Word of God.
On November 5, 1957 she married Emerson Eugene Eckert and he preceded her in death on July 22, 2021. Rose is survived by 6 children: Sharon (Bud) Hattaway, Daniel Eckert, Alice (Harry) Holcomb, David (Faye) Eckert, John (Kathy) Eckert, JoAnna (Mike) Brodgon; 28 grandchildren & 39 soon to be 40 great-grandchildren.
Rose will be remembered for her unwavering positivity and the warmth she brought into every room. She had a gift for making people feel at ease and comfortable, whether through a kind word, a shared laugh, or simply being herself. She loved to tell stories—especially Bible stories—and had a natural way of connecting with children because “kids were her business, her only business.”
She was deeply creative and talented, playing the piano and expressing herself through many hobbies. Rose enjoyed activities like sewing, crafting, scrapbooking and it brought her great joy to create things and give them as gifts like Gramma’s aprons. She was also known for her delicious baked goods including homemade pies and her famous whoopie pies! Rose had a deep love for gardening alongside her husband, Emerson. They had a roadside stand— Eckert’s Produce and spent many years growing fruits and vegetables. Their work became well known in the area with some sweetest strawberries in town, and it was a meaningful part of their life together.
Her faith in God was the foundation of her life. Especially in her later years, Rose found strength and peace through — daily devotions, memorizing verses and singing hymns. Music was very important to her and she woke up many mornings with a song in her heart which she would often share with her family. Her deep and steady faith carried her through life’s most difficult moments.
Family was at the center of Rose’s life. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren deeply and found great joy in being together, helping them and pouring her heart into those she loved.
Rose carried a steadfast resilience throughout her life. She approached challenges with determination and a willingness to figure things out, no matter the circumstance. She loved to have fun, laugh—especially at herself—and find joy in everyday moments.
