HREN, Steven Edward, age 80 of Fremont, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the Newaygo County Compassion Home in Fremont after a long decline in his health. Steve was born January 31, 1944, in Shelby, Michigan to Harold and Hazel (Miller) Hren. He loved spending time with family and friends, and was an avid outdoorsman. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, shooting, building guns, and snowmobiling. He was a long-time member of the New Ocea Free Trappers muzzleloader gun club.
On December 26, 1963, he married his best friend, Carmen Ensing. Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Carmen Hren of Fremont; his children Jeff (Donna) Hren of Hesperia, Kelli (Mike) Garland of Twin Lake, and David Hren of Fremont; his grandchildren Jason (Nicole) Witteveen of Shelby, Trent Witteveen of Montague, Harley Hren and Cara Hren of New Era; his great grandchildren Jaimee Burd of Shelby, Julia Burd of St. Kitts, Kenley Witteveen and Jase Witteveen of Montague; his siblings Geraldine (John) Couturier of Hesperia, Joseph (Janice) Hren of Niles, and Randy (Karen) Hren of Hesperia; and many nieces/nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Hazel (Miller) Hren, and his in-laws Harry Ensing, Byron Combs, and Alice (Schuiteman) Ensing / Combs.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be a time to visit with the family on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Countryside Church of Christ in Hesperia, 8063 Loop Road. The Memorial Service will immediately follow the visitation at the church at 12:00 PM, with Pastor Dick Cotton officiating, and a luncheon will be held at Christ The King hall in Hesperia immediately following the memorial service.
