Suzanne A. (Weny) Maile

Suzanne A. (Weny) Maile, 88 of Newaygo, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024 surrounded by her family. Suzanne was born April 19, 1936 in Grand Rapids, MI to Dr. Max and Esteva Weny. She graduated from St. Patrick High School in Miami Beach, FL in 1954. On March 2, 1957 she married Lawrence G. Maile. Suzanne worked at Union Bank after high school. She then stayed home to raise their 5 children.

Suzanne spent her free-time crocheting, knitting, and sewing for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the surrounding hospitals. She also enjoyed quilting and dancing. Suzanne and Larry spent their winters in Florida for 35 years and explored new places by going on 13 different cruises. She was an avid card player and never passed up a game of Skip-Bo with her kids. Suzanne loved being surrounded by her family.

Suzanne is survived by her 5 children: Jeanne Feikema of Newaygo, Michael (Sharon) Maile of Stanwood, James (Joni) Maile of White Cloud, Laurie (Thomas) Gerencer of Grand Haven, and Nancy (Mark) Nelson of Newaygo; 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandsons; sister Maxine Nelson of Gulfport, Mississippi, brothers Carl (Marlene) Weny of Grand Rapids, and Dr. Bruce (MaryJo) Weny of Grand Rapids; Brother-in-law Robert Maile of Spring Hill, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.

Suzanne was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lawrence Maile, son-in-law Larry Feikema, her parents, sister and brother-in-law Paula (David) Purzecki; brother Rene Weny, brother-in-law Norman Nelson; sister and brother-in-law Barbara (Donald) Newton, and sister-in-law Patricia Maile.

Suzanne has been a member of the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo since 1969 and was also a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the VFW Post 4249 of Newaygo, MI.

Visitation will be held at St Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo from 5:30-8:00 PM on Monday, September 9, 2024, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM.  There will also be a visitation at church from 10-11 AM on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM on Tuesday with Fr. Noah Thelen as Celebrant. Interment will be at St. Bartholomew Catholic Cemetery.
