Wayne Scott Obituary

Wayne  Scott, age 88, of Fremont, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday morning, July 19. He was born on August 30, 1937, to George and Hattie (Speet) Scott.

Wayne was raised on a 40-acre farm south of Fremont and attended a one-room schoolhouse through the fourth grade before transferring to Fremont Christian School. After graduating from high school, he began working as a mechanic at a local dealership. During that time, he met Lorraine Mae VanderWall, and the two were married in 1958.

Wayne attended Ferris State College, where he studied auto body repair. After completing his training, he purchased Fremont Body Shop, which he proudly owned and operated for 38 years.  Wayne not only repaired vehicles for countless customers throughout the community, but also generously shared his skills by helping his children and grandchildren with their own vehicles over the years.

Wayne and Lorraine shared 59 years of marriage before Lorraine's death in 2017.

In 2022, Wayne married Marilynn Sharp. Together they enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren, volunteering at church, traveling in their RV, and spending part of each winter in Florida or Arizona.

A lifelong and active member of First Christian Reformed Church, Wayne faithfully served his church and community, including as a Cadet leader and by serving on Council.

Wayne will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marilynn; his children:  Sandra (Paul) Boersma of Brookfield, Wisconsin; Steven (Michelle) Scott of Saranac, Michigan; Sally Scott (Charles LeHew) of Chicago, Illinois; and Keith (Julia) Scott of Spring Lake, Michigan; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by Marilynn’s children:   Kirk (Paulina) Tyink of White Cloud, Doug (Tracy) Tyink of Muskegon, and Scott (Robin) Tyink of Fremont and their children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother Gerrit (Alma) Scott, and his sister Sylva (Milo) Witte.

Wayne was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and his love of traveling, fishing and hunting. His life was marked by faith, dedication to his family, service to others, and a willingness to lend a helping hand. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, generosity, and love that will be remembered by all who knew him.
