William “Bill” E. Dietz, Jr., age 90 of Fremont, passed away at his home on Sunday, December 26, 2021. He was born on February 25, 1931 in Muskegon, Michigan to William E. & Ella Rose (Eyestone) Dietz. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1949, and he retired from the US Army National Guard in Grand Ledge, Michigan, where he had been a pilot and flew small aircraft and helicopters. He was a member of DADS at the Newaygo VFW Post #4249. Bill was a retired tool & die maker at the GM Plant on 36th Street in Grand Rapids. He had been a little league baseball coach in Newaygo in the 1970’s, and he enjoyed making quilts and gardening. Bill is survived by 7 children: Steve (Sue) Dietz of Howard City, Roger (Yvonne) Dietz of Grant, Kathy (Skip) Grant of Newaygo, Marilyn “Marny” (Dale) Salacina of Newaygo, Kristi (Arthur) Barton of Grant, Randy Dietz of Newaygo, Dave (Tricia) Dietz of Middleville; & their mother Marilyn Dietz of Newaygo. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, & 1 great-great granddaughter; sisters & brothers: Diane Tilden of Indiana, Dale (Faith) Dietz of Muskegon, Larry (Mary) Dietz of Grand Rapids, Ellen (Les) Jorgenson of Grant. Bill was preceded in death by 2 sons, William & Kevin Dietz; daughter, Amy Dietz; brother, Bob Dietz; very good friend & euchre player, Jean Smith; & special friend Joseph Schietecatte. Cremation has taken place, and Military Honors followed by a Memorial Service and luncheon will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at the Newaygo VFW Post #4249.
