Alex P. Duchnowski

Mr. Alex P. Duchnowski, age 87 years of Fremont & formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away late Tuesday evening, August 1, 2017 at his residence.  He was born on October 13, 1929 in Bailistok, Poland to Stanley & Eva (Seywe) Duchnowski, and spent his years from age 13-20 in German Labor Camps during World War II.  Alex had been employed by McInerney Spring & Wire in Grand Rapids for 30 years until his retirement, and he had also owned & operated Alex's Welding in Marne.  He played soccer in his younger years, he enjoyed working in the garage and fixing cars, and he had been a member of S.E.R.T. (Special Emergency Rescue Team) in Ottawa County.  Alex was famous for his Polish cooking, homemade soups, and crock pickles.  He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Fremont, where he had been a Eucharist Minister.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Assembly 3161, where he was a 4th Degree Knight.  On May 25, 1957 he married Adele F. Zoppa and she preceded him in death on May 24, 2011.  He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law David Hall in 2014, and by 3 brothers:  Stanley, Zeno, & Anthony Duchnowski.  Survivors include 11 children:  Colette Duchnowski, Valerie Hall, Phil, Stephen, & Jerome Duchnowski, Janese (Paul) Cerklewich, Michelle Dreyer, Angela (Steve) Moore, Alexander Duchnowski, Jr., Celine Duchnowski, & Kristina (April) Childs; 23 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Helen Anderson & Irene Trojanek; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law:  Antonia (Fred) Klekoda-Baker, Bernie (Carol) Zoppa, Chris (Gail) Zoppa, Tom (Sabrina) Zoppa, Rose Clare (Jeff) Batt; and by many nieces & nephews.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at All Saints Catholic Church in Fremont (500 Iroquois Dr.) with Fr. Sahaya Stanly as Celebrant.  Visitation will also be at the church from 5-7 PM on Friday, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM.  Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.  Suggested Memorials:  The Building Fund of All Saints Catholic Church, or Spectrum Health Hospice.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
