Dear Coach:

I've thought of you often in these past months. Some losses are emotionally painful and, in addition, they effect our daily life and routine drastically. I'm praying that God will give you healthy grieving period.

It was good to see you both at the medical building a few years ago.

Judy,

Please accept our sincerest sympathy in Carolyn's passing. I remember my Dad providing horses for the Y Camp years ago and mentioning stories about Matt with a smile. It wasn't until years later working at Gerber that Carolyn shared that she and Matt were one in the same. We laughed and laughed! What a joyful person; one I always admired and was proud to know. Her support of Mom at Trillium and at the MCF will always be remembered by me and my family. We were so lucky to call her a friend. May God grant you peace and comfort, Judy.

Dear Judy,

I was saddened to hear of Carolyn’s passing. I don’t think I was the only Evanston kid of my generation for whom the Y was a second home and Camp Echo the best place to be in the summer. Matt, with her cowboy hat and red checked shirt, was a friend and mentor who gave us our first jobs as kitchen crew members, assistant counselors and counselors. Along with Zenol Moore, she helped us forge friendships and a love of camp that would last a lifetime. Even as the years have passed and the miles traveled have grown long, the songs of closing campfires come back: “M-mmm I want to linger here. M-mmm a little longer here….” Thank you, Matt. Your life is proof that a single person can touch the lives of many, many people.

Love, Jane (Wilson) Ritter

Judy, It is been a long time since we visited with you and Matt in Fremont. Always a good time when we were together. Now Matt has joined Bob. It is hard to believe. May God fill you with His peace and comfort during the difficult days ahead. Love to you from Rhonda and from Sarah and family and Dan and family.

My memories of Matt are as clear as day, although she was our hero at Camp Echo decades ago. What a wonderful presence she was!! Always upbeat, unconditionally accepting, and a person I will never forget. She and Zenol Moore snuck under our cabin as I sang irreverent songs to my campers on the banjo. (Found out years later) Matt will forever be in my memory as one who accepted all and gave her all. I was proud to have known her. To all in her family, and those who have adored her, a huge hug, and hope for comfort.

Our dear friend has gone on to a better life. Morby, as she used to say changed my diapers and watched me grow up. I loved her as my big sister's best friend, my friend, my boss at Camp Echo, and a Christian mentor. The memories of Camp Echo, Innkeeper, the high jinks she and Mary got into, will always bring a smile to me. I will always hear her singing those wonderful Camp Echo songs. She sings in a better choir now.
