I did not get a chance to know this gentleman after his great grandson Michael married my granddaughter Kali, but his smile says it all. Prayers for all the family, that they find peace and comfort in their memories.

Aunt Ginny and cousins,
My sincere sympathy in your sadness at the loss of your husband and dad. Please take comfort from knowing that God feels for us when we suffer.
As a child (my name from Uncle Chuck was Toot), I looked forward to Uncle Chuck and who ever was with him, stopping at out house after being at the Tuesday night Coopersville Auto Auction. Always a smile and a laugh.

You and your family are in my thoughts with the loss of Chuck. My memories of him are seeing him busy in the garage working on one vehicle or another when you and Chuck lived kittie corner from us. And his laugh. When he and my dad would get talking, I still remember his laugh. ......memories. ..... they will live forever in your heart. ...... Peace be with you Hon. ...

Dear Aunt Ginny, and Cousins Dave, Artie, and Cindy.
My deep sympathy as you mourn the passing of your husband and father. I have so many fond memories of Uncle Chuck including his prophetic childhood nickname for me; Knuckle-head Smith. I pray that God will eventually dry the tears you shed because he is gone and bring to you quiet joy because he was here.

Chuck was one of the main reasons I made it to the cousin's reunion this year. When he saw me he greeted me in the sweetest way and had such sweet things to say to me. Chuck knew how to make one feel special! He was a very kind and happy person and I'm so glad I was able to see him, to hug him, and to sit and chat with him awhile.
Ginny, you and your family are in my prayers and thoughts. We will see him again, "WHAT A DAY THAT WILL BE".

Uncle Chuck was one of my family relatives that inspired me to become an automotive technician. I remember going to Fremont almost every other weekend and seeing him work on all those Volkswagens in his little one stall garage. Artie and I were always messing around with anything that had a motor and we had tons of fun . His easy going temperament and always joking around was something that stuck with me throughout the years. Remember the good times and we'll always cherish the time we spent together as a family . RIP Uncle Chuck.

My Dearest Aunt Gina and family,

As most of you know, Uncle Chuck meant the world to me. I will miss him deeply.

The one fond memory that is etched in my mind is Uncle Chuck being scolded by Aunt Ginna for "rough housing" with us kids. I remember thinking he was so strong because he would throw me up in the air and swing me by my hands and feet like an acrobat. I will miss his fun sayings like, "And we're off, like a herd of turtles." and "Shave and a haircut, two bits." He would always have some funny joke to tell. I loved that about him.
Most of all, I will miss him calling me Doy Doy, my only true nickname in my life that he gave me when I was only 2 years old. I would sing "I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart." but I couldn't articulate the /j/ sound, so I said, "Doy, doy" instead. Hence my nickname was born.

I will forever smile when remembering my joyful Uncle Chuck!

Dear Cousin Virginia and family, We cannot wish him back because he is no longer suffering and is now living in his eternal home! But we will all miss him. I pray the God of comfort will comfort your hearts as only He can. I offer my prayers and love. And I must say that Chuck always called me Chickadee. I had a special name for him too - Old Crow! Mom used to get mad at me and say, Don't call him that! But it was special between the two of us and if I wouldn't say that when he called me Chickadee, he would have thought something was wrong. Don't even know how it got started. He was definitely a good and special man. And we have the blessed hope of seeing him again. Love, Cousin Ruthie aka Chickadee
