Dorothy Mae (McCarty) Brandt

Dorothy Mae Brandt, 83, of Grand Rapids (formerly of Fremont), went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 7, 2017.

Dorothy was born on June 18, 1933 in Flint to Beverly and Ruby (Menter) McCarty.  She married Maurice W. Brandt, Jr. on June 18, 1954 and they lived in Fremont for 45 years.  She was a homemaker for many years and was always willing to share her gift of hospitality.  She served in the community, including:  Church of the Living Christ, Daisy Brook Elementary Library, and TrueNorth Community Services.  Maurey and Dorothy loved the Lord, traveling and serving together, and spending significant time at their Piatt Lake cottage in the Upper Peninsula.  

Dorothy is survived by three children:  Cheryl (Tim) McGrath of Fremont, David (Carlyn Buitendorp, deceased) Brandt of Rockton, IL., Ruth (John) Brandt-Flood of Ferndale, MI.; six grandchildren & six great grandchildren; and sisters, Rev. Ruth McCarty of Grand Rapids and Barbara (Darrell) Hockersmith of Colorado Springs, Colorado.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurey, on December 1, 2004; and siblings David McCarty, Robert McCarty, and Jane Tufford.  

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Covenant Village Residential Living in Grand Rapids with Pastor Nathan DeWard officiating.  Visitation will be at 2:00 PM before the service at Covenant Village.  The family is requesting memorial donations to Emmanuel Hospice in lieu of flowers.
