Evelyn R. (DeKuiper) Gilliland

Mrs. Evelyn R. Gilliland, age 97 years of Fremont, passed away on Thursday morning, March 9, 2017 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont.  She was born on October 4, 1919 in Fremont, Michigan to Arie & Reka (Frens) DeKuiper.  Evelyn was a life long member of Second Christian Reformed Church in Fremont where she sang in the choir, and she had been a member of the Fremont Christian School Helping Hand Society.  She was an avid league bowler, and the love of her life was her family.  On July 5, 1940 she married Raymond J. Gilliland, and he preceded her in death on December 16, 2002 after 62 years of marriage.  Evelyn was also preceded in death by her son, Scott Gilliland in 1968; by her great great granddaughter, Faith Stark in 2002; and by 3 brothers:  Jay, Ronald, & John DeKuiper.  She is survived by 4 children:  Robert (Susan) Gilliland of Hesperia, Linda Shaft of Fremont, David Gilliland of White Cloud, Brad (Vicki) Gilliland of Fremont; daughter-in-law, Marlene Gilliland of Fremont; 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, & 5 great great grandchildren; and by several nieces & nephews.  According to Evelyn's wishes, there will be no visitation or service.  Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.  Suggested Memorial:  The Fremont Area Community Foundation for the Fremont Christian School Endowment Fund.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
